If your agency is not a member of OSCASA ask them why? The majority of Background Artistes Agencies operating in South Africa do so lawfully and within the industry Guidelines established 6 years ago. (Refer Download section of www.oscasa.com website), always putting the welfare of their artistes uppermost in any decisions they make. There is a minority of agents working outside the guidelines which has been to the prejudice of the Industry as a whole, And as a whole this includes you. A number of established agencies got together to discuss how best to deal with these agencies “in-house” and came up with the Official Casting Agency Association of South Africa. Agencies who could meet certain criteria are free to apply to join OSCASA. The agencies who belong to OSCASA adhere to our code of conduct but basically they will set out in writing any terms and conditions (including all charges) that both you and they are expected to comply with so that there can be no misunderstanding by either party. All of the agencies within OSCASA will work to obtain industry acceptable negotiated rates or above, for all work carried out by you through them. If a person wishes to source work on their own accord, that is their prerogative in addition to the responsibility if events or payment or any related matter goes wrong, to rectify themselves. OSCASA agencies are simply trying to provide you with a fair days pay for a fair days work by not doing deals that undervalue your contribution to making the productions real. OSCASA registered agencies are recognized by the major production companies as being highly reputable & professional and also have the full recognition and backing of other industry associations and stakeholders. If your agent is an OSCA Member, should something go wrong, we have an organization behind us to address the issue. A tried and tested Organization with a success record. If they follow the guidelines, which are there to protect you, and meet our code of conduct, we welcome them to join us. The more reputable agencies that do belong to OSCASA the more equipped OSCASA becomes in protecting your interests.
